Legal Aid staff in the Poteau Satellite Office have helped low-income individuals and seniors in their community and surrounding counties for over 35 years. On June 28th, you are invited to come and see their newly renovated office building during an Open House at 224 Dewey Avenue in Poteau.

The staff spent several years in leased office space before Legal Aid purchased the 1902 downtown landmark 32 years ago. Many design changes have been made to the building both inside and outside in the past 110 years. Folks who know the full history call it the old Central National Bank building.

In addition to a bank, the main floor housed a jewelry store and a radio station, with offices for various other businesses on the 2nd floor, which is now a storage area. Two original bank vaults are located in the downstairs level, but of course, the locking mechanisms on the vault doors have been removed for safety purposes.

Please stop by between 2pm to 4pm on Thursday, June 28th to meet the staff and Legal Aid’s new Executive Director, Michael Figgins. Refreshments are provided.
