George and Donna Nigh Chair 2010 Campaign for Justice

George and Donna Nigh, the state’s Governor and First Lady from 1979-1987, are the statewide co-chairs of the 2010 Campaign for Justice, which provides funding for free civil legal services in Oklahoma for elderly and low-income persons.

“We are honored to be involved with this campaign,” said George Nigh. “There are more people who need Legal Aid in Oklahoma now than ever before, and we need to help them.” Nigh was the first governor elected to a second term and is the only gubernatorial candidate ever to carry all 77 counties. Since retiring from public office, both Donna and George Nigh have continued to champion the rights of the developmentally-disabled and other disenfranchised Oklahomans.

The campaign has a goal of raising $750,000 this year to allow Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma to serve more elderly Oklahomans and more of the state’s growing poverty population, in the critical areas of family law including domestic violence; housing and homelessness prevention; consumer law; and healthcare.

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma is the statewide non-profit law firm with 21 offices serving clients from all 77 counties. The Campaign for Justice is a statewide campaign to raise awareness and resources from the legal community including firms and individual attorneys, corporations, foundations and other individuals interested.
