Disaster & Poverty: A Problem-Solving Exercise

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Indian Legal Services are co-hosting an interactive Disaster Poverty Simulation facilitated by attorney Alicia Aiken. Participants will be assigned a role as a low-income person in the aftermath of a disaster event, with a specific recovery goal and set of circumstances to navigate in achieving their recovery goal.

What you may learn:

  • Why do some of our low-income clients make the decisions they do?
  • How may I be more effective as a legal aid or pro bono attorney, or in my role as a disaster recovery provider?
  • In what ways might our community improve response to those in need?
  • What are the most pressing legal needs after a disaster, and what should we be paying attention to now?
  • What are some of the concerns that affect our communities that we might not even know about?
  • How do community agencies collaborate in disaster recovery in Oklahoma?
