This training will address how to obtain a legal name change for a client in New York Civil Court and the different reasons that people choose to change their names. Requirements for changing the gender marker on different documents, such as birth certificates, NYS Identification Cards, NYS Benefits Cards and U.S. Passports will be discussed, as well as recent case law that allows those at risk of violence to obtain a confidential legal name change and how this is helpful for transgender people and/or victims of domestic violence.

The training is free.
