*Updated from The Legal Aid Society: After the recording of this webinar, USCIS clarified that only Social Security Numbers (SSN) issued to the applicant by the Social Security Administration need be disclosed on the Form I-821D and Form I-765. Any other SSNs used by the applicant, real or fake, need not be disclosed.
On June 15th the Federal Government announced that it would provide Deferred Action and Employment Authorization (work permit) to qualified young people who were brought to the United States as children and have no lawful status. The Department of Homeland Security has published the application procedures and we anticipate thousands of qualified low-income New Yorkers will require legal assistance.
To meet this need, The Legal Aid Society's Immigration Law Unit will be hosting application assistance clinics beginning August 20th at the Society's Brooklyn Neighborhood Civil office located at 111 Livingston Street as well as collaborative clinics with community partners. As our pro bono partners, we are reaching out to you to work with The Legal Aid Society to enable New York City's young immigrants achieve temporary status and economic independence.
All volunteers will be supervised by experienced immigration attorneys who will be present at the clinic; however we request that you view our webinar training prior to volunteering for a clinic. We also need Hotline volunteers for either half or full days. There is a particular need for Spanish, French, and Chinese speakers to compliment English speaking hotline volunteers. The hotlines will run daily starting on August 20th throughout the month of August and will be located at the Society's main office: 199 Water Street.
Please note this training does not provide CLE credit.

The Legal Aid Society's Pro Bono Practice builds the foundation for and expands private bar involvement with Legal Aid. By integrating law firms and attorneys in delivering volunteer services in the Civil, Criminal, and Juvenile Rights Practices, the Pro Bono Practice augments legal assistance to many of Legal Aid's most vulnerable groups of clients.
Pro bono services are organized by distinct legal projects established at participating law firms. The projects often originate in discussions where Legal Aid attorneys express the need to obtain pro bono representation to fulfill critical legal needs of clients in the area of the staff lawyers' expertise. A law firm establishes a new project by mobilizing a critical mass of its attorneys to represent a specific number of Legal Aid clients annually under partner leadership. The Legal Aid lawyers who developed the model become the mentors for the firm's new project.
