Neil Steinkamp, a Managing Director at Stout Risus Ross, Inc worked pro bono with The Legal Aid Society, providing financial advice including damages analysis, forensic accounting of business records, and the development of financial models to assist the Society in future cases. Learn more

CBJC's Pro Bono Consumer Bankruptcy Project Recognizes Schuyler Carroll of Perkins Coie LLP for over 1000 Hours of Pro Bono Service
Through the Bankruptcy Pro Bono Panel, a collaborative effort of the Bankruptcy Courts of the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and CBJC's Pro Bono Consumer Bankruptcy Project, Perkins Coie partner Schuyler Carroll has put in over 1000 hours of pro bono hours on 6 cases. Learn more

New Rule Expands Pro Bono Possibilities for In-House Counsel
Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman announced that attorneys working in corporate law departments in New York who are not admitted in the state can now provide pro bono representation if they are admitted and in good standing in another state. This new rule supplies New York with thousands of new potential pro bono attorneys. Learn more

Volunteer at the Access to Benefits (A2B) Hotline
The Legal Aid Society is looking for volunteer assistance to help staff the Access to Benefits (A2B) hotline, which is open for calls on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10am-1pm and run from the Society's 199 Water Street location. Learn more

Basic CLARO Training
On January 14th, attend a CLARO training to become eligible to work at a CLARO clinic in any of five boroughs, providing consumer debt pro se assistance to unrepresented litigants. Learn more

LAS Training Series | How To Draft A Will For Low-Income & Elderly Clients
On January 28th, learn how to draft a will for seniors with small estates. Attendance at the session will prepare you to interview clients, asses information collected, and draft appropriate documents. Learn more

LAS Training Series | Intellectual Property For The Micro-Entrepreneur
On January 30th, learn basic principles of copyright, trademark, trade secret, and patent law, with an emphasis on how micro-entrepreneurs should be advised as they develop their business ideas and confront the need to protect their intellectual property assets and avoid infringing the intellectual property rights of others. Acquire the knowledge to represent criminal defendants in the Appellate Division. This resource focuses on the procedural and substantive law underlying criminal appeals. Learn more

Housing Preservation Actions | The Legal Aid Society
Learn to initiate and litigate proceedings on behalf of tenants whose landlords willfully refuse to provide the most basic of services, including heat and hot water during the winter. This resource addresses the drafting of pleadings, pre-litigation research, how to obtain evidence, and strategies for effectively litigating the action to a successful conclusion. Learn more
