Citigroup, Barclays and Goldman Sachs Lend a Hand to Small Business Owners through the City Bar Justice Centers Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project
On Wednesday, May 9th, lawyers and legal professionals from Barclays, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup partnered to provide low income micro-entrepreneurs with the pro bono legal services they need to get their small businesses started on as sound a footing as possible at one of the Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Projects (NELP) legal clinics. Law Firm Summer Associates at LAS Represent Low-Income New Yorkers with Disabilities and Public Housing Tenants
Although law firms continue to have smaller summer associate classes than prior to the recession, The Legal Aid Society's pro bono partners have continued the tradition of representing low-income New Yorkers with physical and/or mental disabilities who are seeking Social Security Income Disability ("SSI") benefits and preventing the eviction of New York City Housing Authority ("NYCHA") tenants. The Legal Aid Society and Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP Sue to Stop the NYPD from Making Unlawful Marijuana Arrests
The Legal Aid Society and the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court on June 22, 2012, to prohibit the NYPD from continuing to make unlawful marijuana arrests. The lawsuit seeks a declaration that current police practices are illegal and an order that directs the NYPD to implement necessary steps to ensure that its officers comply with the law. Read more
Carey Dunne Elected New President of New York City Bar Association
On May 15th, the New York City Bar Association welcomed Carey Dunne as its new President. Dunne is the 65th president in the Associations 141-year history. Read more
