Man Wins Freedom After 20 Years, Thanks To The Legal Aid Society and Shearman & Sterling; Reunited With Son Whom He Met Only Once As An Infant
Shearman & Sterling LLP teamed up with The Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Appeals Bureau and the Criminal Defense Practice to overturn the wrongful conviction of Carlos Morillo, who spent 20 years in prison.  Read more

Human Rights First presents this training seminar for attorneys interested in becoming volunteers with its asylum legal representation program, and others interested in learning more about asylum law. Learn more

Wednesday, June 6, 2012: Private Placement Adoption Training
MFY Legal Services offers this free training to educate and prepare attorneys on how to handle adoption proceedings in family court. It is expected that participating associates will accept a case for representation. Learn more

Monday, June 11, 2012: Wills 101
The Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project presents a training on how to draft wills, including issues such as the importance of having a will; probate; health care proxies; power of attorney; joint accounts; assets; and trusts 101. Learn more

Thursday, June 21, 2012: Lawyers' Foreclosure Intervention Network Training
The Lawyers' Foreclosure Intervention Network (LFIN), a joint project of the City Bar Justice Center and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, will train participating lawyers to represent homeowners in the foreclosure settlement conferences and in applying for available loss mitigation options.
