Wednesday, February 18, 2009

  • Organization: The Legal Aid Society

Sidley Austin, through the leadership of Peter Brensilver and James Arden, has initiated a new pro bono partnership with the Legal Aid Society's HIV/AIDS Representation Project ("HARP"). Located at the Society's Harlem Community Law Office, HARP assists persons living with HIV/AIDS across a wide-range of legal issues including privacy and confidentiality; Social Security Disability advocacy; preservation of housing; loan forgiveness; wills and estate planning; and resolution of matrimonial and family conflicts.

Experienced HARP staff attorney Diane LaGamma conducted a training for the firm's attorneys and serves as mentor on referred cases. Sidley attorneys also have begun working with staff attorney Edwin Vega, accompanying him on a monthly basis for intake of cases at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital's Samuels Clinic. The firm will be accepting additional cases arising out of the intake practice.
