This three-week training will review the fundamentals of obtaining U nonimmigrant status for victims of certain crimes, as well as focus in on cutting edge or developing topics related to U visa eligibility and  related benefits for family members. Advocates who have previous training or experience with U status cases will have an opportunity to learn about new legal developments, consider strategic issues for applicants and family members, and strengthen their ability to prepare successful applications for U status and subsequent adjustment of status. The course starts on Thursday, September 7 with access to the e-learning course website and a live webinar at 3:00 p.m EDT providing an overview of U status eligibility. Each of the following three weeks of the course addresses specific issues related to U status, with related reading assignments, exercises and quizzes. This coursework is interactive, with opportunities for online discussion among students, and between the students and the instructors. Each week of the course concludes with a live 90-minute webinar, conducted on consecutive Thursdays at 3:00pm. EDT, where the course instructors will review and discuss the course content for that week. Each live webinar is recorded and posted on the course website after the webinar is conducted. Although we encourage participants to attend the live webinars each week, you will be able to listen to and view a recording of any webinar you are unable to attend whenever you choose to do so. A course outline is available here.
