The Legal Aid Society’s Annual Awards Dinner Honors Pete Ruegger and Raymond McGuire

The Legal Aid Society's 36th Annual Awards Dinner recognized Philip T (Pete) Ruegger, former Chair of the Executive Committee of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, as the Society's 2013 Servant of Justice, and Raymond J. McGuire, Citi's Global Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, as the 2013 recipient of the Society’s Theodore Roosevelt Award.  Mr. Ruegger’s leadership at Simpson Thacher has been augmented by his community service as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Natural Resources Defense Council, Chairman of the Board of Henry Street Settlement House and a member of the Board of Directors of the Partnership for New York City. Mr. McGuire serves on several boards including: the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (Trustee), the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the New York Public Library, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Citi Foundation. He as been the recipient of the Humanitarian Leadership Award from the Council of Urban Professionals and the Frederick Douglas Award from the New York Urban League, and was inducted by Morehouse College as one of the inaugural members of the Martin Luther King, Jr., International Board of Renaissance Leaders.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Society’s Civil Practice, which annually provides individual legal assistance that benefits more than 100,000 vulnerable New Yorkers. In addition, the Society's law reform representation benefits all two million low-income children and adults in all five boroughs.
