The New York City Bar Association 20th Annual Legal Services Awards

On May 14th, four attorneys and one paralegal were honored at the New York City Bar Association’s Twentieth Annual Legal Services Awards. The Awards give recognition to attorneys and non-attorneys who provide outstanding civil legal assistance to New York’s poor. The awards are administered by the Special Committee on the Legal Services Awards, chaired by William T. Russell, Jr., and sponsored by the Committee on Pro Bono and Legal Services, chaired by Madeleine Schachter. The awards are endowed by a generous contribution from the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation.

This year’s recipients were Kim Barnett, Staff Attorney, 32BJ Legal Services Fund; Lourdes Rodriguez Mo, Supervising Attorney, Northern Manhattan Improvement Corp; Una Leonora Perkins, Paralegal, MFY Legal Services, Inc; Lisa Sbrana, Supervising Attorney, Health Law Unit, The Legal Aid Society; and Oscar S. Strauss III, Director, Elderly Project, Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS). The Awards were presented by Hon. Allan Gropper, Judge, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York and Chair of the Committee that founded the award.
