Child abuse, teen dating violence, and elder abuse impact the lives of millions of people in the United States daily. According to the CDC, at least 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse or neglect in the past year, and a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds (childhelp.org). Teen dating violence is potentially a precursor to intimate partner violence (NIJ). Last year, about 1 in 12 US high school students experienced physical dating violence (CDC). Elder abuse is often a silent problem that affects 1 in 10 Americans aged 60+ by robbing them of their dignity and security. Approximately 60% of elder abuse and neglect incidents are perpetrated by a family member. (NCOA.org)
