This course starts with a brief overview of Supplemental Needs Trusts. We'll discuss the different types of SNTs and how they impact eligibility for a range of different public benefit programs, in particular Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income. The course will include citations to and discussion of case law, statutory, and regulatory authorities governing the use of SNTs.
The second half of this training will be devoted to the process of using a Pooled SNT to shelter excess income for Medicaid purposes. We'll provide a detailed walk-through of assisting a client in enrolling in a pooled income trust, submitting the required paperwork to Medicaid for approval, and successfully using the trust.
This course will NOT delve into drafting trust agreements for individual SNTs, nor the finer points of sheltering excess resources with SNTs.
Remote Participation Available
Participation also possible remotely online through GoToWebinar. If you choose to participate remotely, you will be sent instructions to hear the audio and view the presentation on your computer using GoToWebinar. This is not a webcast - you will not be able to see video of the presenter, only the PowerPoint slides and other visual aides. You can listen to the presenter and ask questions (by voice if you have a computer microphone; otherwise by typing your questions). If you choose to participate remotely, you must write down any codes provided during the session in order to get CLE credit. Please note that only those who have purchased tickets may sign in to the webinar. We have a limited number of webinar slots, so please do not forward webinar information to your colleagues; they must register separately.

Financial scholarships, which may reduce or waive tuition, may be requested by those indicating unemployment or other financial hardship. The Financial Scholarship Application must be received by EFLRP two weeks before the seminar date. This policy is intended to make our programs accessible to those facing financial hardship.
Note that the tuition for non-profit employees/volunteers and students is automatically discounted, without need for a scholarship application. If non-profit employees/volunteers and students cannot afford the discounted amount, they may still apply for a scholarship.
- CLE Credit Comments: Selfhelp Community Services, Inc. has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board as an Accredited Provider of continuing legal education. The course is appropriate for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys, except that CLE credit for remote online participation is only available for attorneys admitted at least two years, upon filing requisite certificate of attendance. New attorneys may receive CLE credit only for live in-person attendance. For this training we will be granting 3.0 NY CLE credits in Areas of Professional Practice.
