SUMMARY:Supporting Vulnerable People and Pets During Housi
ng Crises: Policy and Practice Solutions
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Keeping people and pets together during times
of housing crisis is essential for preserving fami
ly bonds, reducing trauma, and promoting better ou
tcomes for both humans and animals. Yet less than
25% of domestic violence shelters nationally accep
t pets, and the “no pets allowed” rule in homeless
  shelters remains a standard practice.

In th
is CLE program, panelists, Megan Senatori, Esq. fr
om the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Cl
ark Law School, Lina Cohen from Urban Resource Ins
titute’s PALS for All initiative, and Christine Ki
m from My Dog Is My Home will discuss the legal an
d practical frameworks that can support keeping pe
ople and their companion animals together during h
ousing crises. This session will explore the human
and animal welfare implications of co-sheltering,
highlight best practices for implementing pet-inc
lusive policies in interim housing, provide an ove
rview of key legislation, and spark ideas for how
lawyers can leverage their knowledge and skills to
support survivors of domestic violence and their
 companion animals.
