Given the immense pressures upon our family courts, including the high volume of cases, there are many challenges to commencing, conducting, and completing emergency hearings which are conducted pursuant to sections 1027 and 1028 of the Family Court Act. The purpose of this panel discussion is to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders from the child protective system, including current and former practitioners and jurists, to share their thoughts and experiences. The focus of the discussion will be practices, protocols, techniques, and strategies that have been effectively employed in the courtroom, in the past or in the present, to promote the timely completion of 1027/1028 hearings, and ensure compliance with the language and intent of article 10 law. Moreover, panelists will brainstorm together and offer new suggestions.
