Disabilities in the Legal Profession 2019

Topics:
  • Disability

Lawyers with disabilities have outstanding credentials, skills and knowledge to contribute to the legal profession.  This program is designed to challenge attendees’ assumptions about disability, acquaint them with the obstacles facing lawyers with disabilities and how to help address them, and offer unique perspectives by disabled lawyers on their careers.

Lawyers and law students with disabilities face considerable challenges in joining the legal profession. These challenges include but are not limited to a lack of access and accommodations and denied employment and training opportunities on the basis of our disabilities. The stigma and barriers to inclusion are such that we continue to be left out of “diversity” initiatives and targeted recruitment efforts. The sparse data on lawyers with disabilities leaves much to be desired.

This program will be a valuable experience to anyone interested in increasing their capacity for supporting inclusion within the legal profession.
