Wrongful Conviction 2017: Litigating Exoneration Cases (Free Webcast)

The Practising Law Institute is offering a free webcast of a live presentation from New York entitled Wrongful Conviction 2017: Litigating Exoneration Cases on December 8, 2017 from 1:30 pm -3:45 pm.

The conviction of innocent individuals is among the issues getting increased attention as our nation looks more closely at our criminal justice system.  While there are a number of ways individuals can be wrongly convicted, successfully reversing a conviction is incredibly difficult. This is an area where competent legal representation can make a big difference and where there are myriad opportunities for lawyers interested in providing pro bono legal services.  Many of the recent DNA and non-DNA exonerations have occurred as a result of work from innocence organizations in collaboration with pro bono partners.

This program is designed for lawyers who advocate post-conviction claims of innocence or who are interested in getting involved in this area.  Prisoners’ rights advocates, as well as lawyers or law students considering pro bono representation or who want to hear about the legal issues that arise in connection with exoneration work will find this program especially valuable.
