HASA Update 2017: Eligibility, Benefits, and Budgeting

This training will be a comprehensive overview of the benefits available to HIV-positive public assistance recipients in New York City, with a focus on benefits available through the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA). The training will discuss the medical and financial eligibility requirements for HASA benefits and demonstrate how to calculate public assistance budgets for people living with HIV/AIDS in New York City using real world examples of public assistance households. The scenarios will include examples of budgeting earned income under the HASA Work Opportunities Program, SSI invisibility in households receiving rent enhancement and budgets in supportive housing programs. There will also be a discussion of HASA' supportive and emergency housing, procedures for obtaining rent arrears, and how to appeal HASA-specific benefit denials.
