On January 23 at 6:30 pm, the National Lawyers Guild -- NYC, Labor & Employment Committee of the NLG-NYC and the Labor Coalition at CUNY School of Law are hosting a panel discussion on the bankruptcy crisis in Detroit with special guests from Detroit itself. The speakers will cover the crisis' effect on the civil, voting, pension, and collective bargaining rights of the people of Detroit, the constitutional challenges to the Emergency Manager Act, and the battle in bankruptcy court.

The two CLE credits and food are free. But, we are running the event as a fundraiser for the Sugar Law Center--a non-profit law center fighting for the rights of Michigan citizens by challenging the Emergency Manager Act. We are asking lawyers to donate $50 and non-lawyers to donate $10, or more if you can. Please make checks out to "Sugar Law Center" or bring cash to the event.

To ensure that we have space and food for everyone, please register as soon as possible. .

CUNY School of Law is easily accessible. It is located at 2 Court Square in Long Island City on the corner of 44th Drive and Hunter Street. See CUNY's website for more information.

Additional cosponsors include the Nation.
