The Brennan Center for Justice is hosting How to Reduce Mass Incarceration: A Debate. Noted criminologist James Austin, Ph.D., expert witness in the landmark Supreme Court case Brown v. Plata, and Michael Jacobson, Ph.D., President and Director of the Vera Institute of Justice, present their newly released report showing that local policies in New York City that led to a shift from felony to misdemeanor arrests were responsible for the reduction of the entire correctional population of the state. Join in for an engaging debate among criminal justice experts about the meaning and implications of Drs. Austin and Jacobson's report.
