Affirmative Litigation Training (ALT), offered through a combination of web-based and in-person learning activities, provides a comprehensive introduction to the process of prosecuting a complex affirmative case in federal or state court. It includes a mix of interactive sessions, webinars, and multimedia lectures on the substantive law of claim justiciability, as well as practical exercises on discovery, complaint drafting, motion practice, and emergency relief. Together, these elements, and the course as a whole, provide a solid foundation for strengthening legal aid practice and moving our community toward a renewed focus on high impact, change-oriented advocacy. ALT includes three weeks of web-based activities in addition to three days in-person.

Who Should Enroll?

Advocates seeking to expand their practice to include effective impact advocacy designed to make fundamental changes for their clients. Typically these attorneys will have some previous litigation experience.

Three weeks online conducted through the Shriver Center's Online Campus (October 1-19, 2012), and an in-person training at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains, New York (October 23-25, 2012).

Registration Fee and Information

Registration fee includes three weeks of online training plus three days of in-person training, including snacks and lunch each day.

  • $1500 Basic Registration (registration deadline September 14)

CLE credit is available. Program fees are not refundable. Registered participants who cannot attend may send substitutes or request a credit toward a future training as long as seven days advance written notice is given. For questions, please contact us at training@povertylaw.org.

Accommodations

Reduced rate accommodations have been secured for this training at $149.00/night plus tax at the Crowne Plaza White Plains, NY, 66 Hale Street, White Plains, NY. 1 -914-682-0050. Participants are responsible for reserving their own rooms. Reservations must be made by no later than October 3, 2012 to guarantee the reduced rate. Reservations after this date will be able subject to hotel availabilty and the rate will be established by the hotel. We encourage you to make your reservations early.
