Walsh Lobbies Lawmakers on Housing Protections for Seniors

"Mayor Martin J. Walsh was on Beacon Hill pushing legislation to protect elderly and low-income tenants from eviction amid the region’s housing crisis, but landlords argue that the real problem is a lack of affordable units.

“We have a housing crisis going on in the commonwealth of Massachusetts right now and Boston is at the forefront,” Walsh said. “We’re setting records for building housing and we’re still not staying ahead of what’s needed.”

Walsh testified in favor of a couple of bills before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary at the State House Tuesday that would provide a free attorney for low-income and elderly tenants in eviction proceedings and prohibit no-fault eviction for people over 75.
