Court Releases Videos for Those Seeking Help from Abuse

"charleston – The West Virginia Supreme Court released on Tuesday a series of videos to help victims of domestic violence seek court orders barring perpetrators from contact with them.

“We want to make sure that the information people need about their rights and our court system is easy to access and understand, and we think that videos are a great way to accomplish those goals,” said Chief Justice Beth Walker, in a statement.

The videos are posted on the West Virginia Judiciary YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/wvsupremecourt) and can be accessed from the West Virginia Judiciary website (http://www.courtswv.gov/). There is an accompanying brochure at http://www.courtswv.gov/lower-courts/pdfs/DVTri-fold2019.pdf.

“This video will be extremely helpful for domestic violence victims seeking safety through the legal system,” said Adrienne Worthy, executive director of Legal Aid of West Virginia, in a statement. “The video describes the process around getting a domestic violence protective order in the West Virginia Court system in an easy to understand manner using two real-person scenarios.” ..."
