Free Legal Aid Available to Low-Income Residents

"Southern Arizona Legal Aid does not defend clients facing criminal charges, but its trained staff invite low-income clients to once-a-month office hours for services ranging from domestic abuse orders of protection; child support and custody issues.

Free civil legal assistance for those who meet eligibility guidelines also includes rental lease termination, debt problems with creditors and credit monitoring agencies. Legal aid staff visit Gila County on the second Wednesday each month from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are preferred - please call 520-623-9465, extension 4189; or toll-free 800-640-9465, extension 4189. Services include:

• Tribal Court: representation for Tribal Court cases such as domestic relations, juvenile dependency, delinquency, criminal, housing, public benefits, consumer matters, and education

• Public Benefits: government welfare programs such as SNAP (Food Stamps) , AHCCCS Medical Assistance, TANF Cash Assistance, Unemployment and Social Security Disability benefits. Public benefits issues include denials, reductions and overpayment of benefits..."
