Bringing Lawyers Out of the Courtroom and Into the Community

"In the wake of the Freddie Gray tragedy, it became clear that more needed to support the Baltimore community. Inspired by the prominence of public libraries during this tumultuous time, Maryland Legal Aid launched the Lawyer in the Library clinic to bring lawyering directly to the community.

Our guest on the latest episode of the podcast is Meaghan McDermott, and she’s the project director of the Community Lawyering Initiative for Maryland Legal Aid. She discusses the incredibly successful Lawyer in the Library program, which helps the people of Baltimore with a variety of legal issues, including criminal expungements, child custody, bankruptcy, estate planning, and veterans’ benefits..."
