New program promises legal aid for veterans, enlisted people

 

"South Carolina veterans will have another tool in their toolbox when they face legal issues.

Attorney General Alan Wilson announced a new program Thursday called the Veterans, Active/Reserve Legal Outreach program, also called the VALOR program. It helps veterans, active duty military and reserves members to get free or reduced-cost legal help.

“The legal profession has always recognized it has a moral obligation to support those who defend the freedoms we treasure,” Wilson said in a news release. “This new program will better connect veterans and members of the military with the legal help they need and may not know where to get, or may not be able to afford.”

The program is a collaboration between the Attorney General’s Office and other legal and military organizations, including the state Bar, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the state National Guard and the American Legion..."
