Legal Aid office reopens in Boone

 

"BOONE — Six years after closing its doors, the Legal Aid of North Carolina’s office in Boone — located at 171 Grand Blvd. — celebrated its grand reopening on Oct. 23.

Legal Aid of North Carolina is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income individuals. Serving as the Boone office’s supervising attorney, Jonathan Perry said he believes Legal Aid is the fourth biggest law firm in North Carolina.

The Boone office — which served Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties — was set to close in September 2011 after federal and state budget cuts rendered the office unable to operate. The Morganton and Winston-Salem Legal Aid offices have since served clients in the Boone office’s service area..."
