Immigration and social service group opens Frederick office

Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland Inc., a long-term presence in Silver Spring, opened its Frederick office at 329 S. Jefferson St. at the end of July. Director Maria Herrera spoke with The News-Post recently about the services the office offers.

 

You have an office in Silver Spring. How long has that office been open?

That office has been open, I think, roughly about 43 years.

 

Do you have any locations other than these two?

No, we do not.

 

What made you decide on Frederick as your second location?

We have a lot of clients from the Frederick community that come down to see us in Silver Spring. And we have noticed an increase in the number of residents who are actually traveling all the way down to Silver Spring. And we have also noticed an increase in the areas of West Virginia and Pennsylvania, [as well as] New York. And we also did some statistics based on growth of the cities within Maryland, and Frederick is considered one of the top five cities for diversity that continues to grow and develop. And we thought it was a good opportunity for us to facilitate our clients’ not having to travel so far to get the resources they need..."
