Legal Aid Society continues push for NYPD to release cops’ disciplinary records

 

"The Legal Aid Society pressed its case to force the city to provide access to cops’ disciplinary records on two fronts this week.

The group, which represents defendants who can’t afford private lawyers, filed an appeal in a lawsuit seeking the disciplinary history of NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, whose use of a banned chokehold caused the death of Eric Garner in Staten Island in 2014. The city and the Civilian Complaint Review Board are defendants.

The motion requests that the top court in the state — the Court of Appeals — hear their case.

The second motion, sent to the Appellate Division of the First Department in Manhattan, appeals a judge’s decision to deny access to summaries of NYPD disciplinary outcomes..."
