Texas non-profit sues Trump administration for prolonged detention of asylum seekers

 

"The Sierra Leone journalist was forced to flee his West Africa country after publishing articles criticizing the widespread practice of female genital mutilation and in support of gay rights. In January, he crossed the border and asked officials in Brownsville for asylum.

But though he passed the initial interview needed to obtain the protection, he has been unnecessarily held in detention ever since, according to a lawsuit filed in the District of Columbia Tuesday against Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security..."
