Seattle approves additional funding for immigrant and refugee families

 

"Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and the Metropolitan King County Council have taken further steps to reaffirm Seattle’s reputation as a Sanctuary City. An additional aid fund of $250,000 was recently allotted in order to provide further legal assistance to immigrant and refugee families in an effort to help navigate an increasingly challenging legal environment.

The funds were a provision stipulated in an executive order signed by Murray Nov. 24, 2016. Having pledged in November to set funds aside for students from undocumented families, Murray stated that the current administration’s rhetoric is a threat to “Seattle’s economy and … workers.”"
