"Having to pay court fees is never fun -- but if you don't do it -- it could cost you your driver's license.
But a federal class action lawsuit recently filed against the Virginia DMV, says that's not fair.
The Legal Aid Justice center says if a someone has trouble paying court fees, taking away their ability to legally drive to work and earn money to pay it off is counterproductive and unconstitutional.
Demetrice Moore is a certified nursing assistant though she says it's nearly impossible to see patients and earn a living because she doesn't have a driver's license. It was suspended because she was falling behind paying court fees.
"Right now, I'm just looking for work that's closer and that's on the bus line," said Moore.
Pat Levy-Lavelle, an attorney with Legal Aid Justice Center, says Moore's situation is actually happening all over the Commonwealth. He said it’s"extremely hard" for her to find work without a driver’s license."
