Two years ago the DC Pro Bono Week Committee decided to create a Virtual Pro Bono Fair to showcase the work of area legal service providers. After much effort but no academy award nominations, the DC Virtual Pro Bono Fair has now launched, http://www.probono.net/dc/probonofair/!

The Virtual Pro Bono Fair is an online video directory that gives legal service providers and public interest organizations a forum to promote their organizations and the types of pro bono opportunities they offer. The videos are each approximately 5 minutes in length and are meant to function as a permanent on-line pro bono fair.

There are eleven legal service providers featured on the Virtual Pro Bono Fair web page. While this is not all the providers in the DC metropolitan area, the Fair provides a nice cross-section of organizations and opportunities.

Pat Layden, a private practitioner in McAlester, Oklahoma, has volunteered many hours to promote equal access to justice in Oklahoma. He served Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma Inc. as Board member and past President of the Board and as a pro bono attorney. Pro Bono Net thanks Legal Aid Services of Oklahama (LASO) for sharing this inspiring volunteer story about his work on a hotly contested child custody case where a young mother, with a critically ill infant was involved in a custody battle over her one–year old daughter.
