LASM is looking for new volunteers to assist low-income clients in tax and immigration law. LASM’s new Tax Law Volunteer Attorney Program (TVAP) and Immigration Law Volunteer Attorney Program (IVAP) provide great opportunities for attorneys to gain experience with direct client representation, meet pro bono targets and expand their knowledge into a new area of law with the support of Legal Aid experts. Best of all, in this time of tight budgets and economic hardship, volunteers help people living at or near the poverty line by providing much needed legal services that they would otherwise not receive.

LASM’s new Tax Law Volunteer Attorney Program focuses on three main areas:
1) Collections; 2) Audit examinations; and 3) Innocent spouse relief. LASM asks that TVAP attorneys take at least one case per year.

LASM’s new Immigration Law Volunteer Attorney Program focuses on two main areas:
1) Naturalization; and 2) U-visas for crime victims. LASM asks that IVAP attorneys take at least two naturalization or one U-visa case per year.
