Register now to participate in a free "Wills for Heroes" training session that will help the PBA Young Lawyers Division expand the program across the state.

Wills for Heroes provides wills, living wills and health care and financial powers of attorney to first responders (police, fire and emergency medical personnel) and their spouses/partners at no cost.

The program, which is offered in more than 20 states, was founded by Anthony Hayes, a South Carolina lawyer who wanted to do something meaningful to help the country after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The PBA Young Lawyers Division, along with co-sponsor Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll L.L.P. of Philadelphia, launched the Pennsylvania Wills for Heroes program earlier this year. Additional lawyer volunteers are needed to staff future programs that are being scheduled all over Pennsylvania. Volunteers are not required to practice trust and estate law to participate; they simply need to have the desire to protect those who protect us.

The free training session, offered by the PBA YLD and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 29.

Training will be presented live in Philadelphia with simulcast locations in Greensburg, Meadville, Mechanicsburg, Pittsburgh, Reading, Stroudsburg and Wilkes-Barre. Attendees will receive one substantive CLE credit and their names will be placed on a volunteer list that will be used to staff upcoming Wills for Heroes programs.
