King County Dependency CASA Program

We need pro bono attorneys to represent CASA volunteers at trial (or occasionally at other stages of the proceedings). CASA volunteers are assigned to abuse and neglect (Dependency) cases. They conduct research of the case, reviewing documents and interviewing everyone involved, including the child. They make reports to the court, recommending what they believe is in the best interests of the child, providing the judge with information that will help him/her make an informed decision. The duties when representing a CASA include: preparing trial documents, assisting in negotiations, advising the CASA on strategy, preparing the CASA to testify, making opening and closing statements and examining witnesses. The pro bono attorney ensures that the CASA's recommendations are clearly and thoroughly presented.
