Tubman Family Law

Pro bono family law attorneys can provide services including advice clinics, pro se clinics, and representation in family law matters. Read more about each of these options.

Family Law Pro Bono Project. Represent clients in a range of family law matters from motion hearings to divorce, in Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties. Tubman screens clients for income eligibility and compelling need for representation. If you have limited experience in family law, we can match you with an experienced family law attorney mentor. We ask you to represent one or two clients per year. This is our area of greatest client need and limited scope options are frequently available!

Family Law Self-Represented Legal Clinic. Help clients represent themselves in family law matters, primarily in Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties. Attorneys meet with clients one one one for two hours and provide assistance drafting documents, extended legal advice, and creating action plans for the client. Tubman screens clients for income eligibility, legal merit, and need for representation. Case history and documents are provided in advance, and attorneys are paired with a volunteer paralegal or law student who can assist with drafting and preparation. Court forms, internet access, printer, copier, and legal resource materials are available. Opportunities are remote at this time.

Family Law Legal Advice Clinics: Provide individual legal advice to clients by phone or ZOOM. You will be scheduled for a two-hour clinic four or six times a year and will usually meet with four clients for 30 minutes each. Clinic appointments are designed to clarify legal issues, answer brief questions and provide legal advice and direction—not on-going representation or document preparation. Attorneys in this program need a minimum of two years Family Law experience to volunteer. Attorneys who are proficient in multiple languages are particularly encouraged to apply.
