Equal Justice Works Summer Corps Program in Mississippi

The legal services organizations in Mississippi are seeking applicants for Summer Corps positions in Mississippi. The Equal Justice Works Summer Corps is an Americorps funded program that provides law students (1Ls and 2Ls) with the opportunity to earn a $1,000 education award voucher for working 300 hours over the summer. Students may work on a qualifying project with the nonprofit public interest organization of their choice. Benefits of volunteering with the Summer Corps: gain practical legal experience; serve your community and individuals in need; provide legal services to hurricane victims; enhance your resume and stand out in the job market; improve legal research and writing skills; and make connections with legal professionals in the community.

Possible placements of Summer Corps positions include: North Mississippi Rural Legal Services' Oxford, Tupelo, Clarksdale, Greenville, and West Point offices; Mississippi Center for Legal Services' Gulfport, Hattiesburg, and Jackson offices; and the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project's Jackson office. The Summer Corps members will play an integral part in meeting the critical need for legal services for low income individuals in Mississippi. Additionally, students working with Mississippi Center for Legal Services or Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project will be working on projects for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
