Immigration Advocates Network VISTA

Join our team this year as a VISTA member! The Immigration Advocates Network (IAN) is recruiting a VISTA to support a national volunteer project that connects pro bono attorneys and other skills-based volunteers to training, resources, and other opportunities.

WHO: New or recent college graduates, who are committed to social justice and immigrant rights. A demonstrated interest in our work is a plus (e.g. previous work or volunteering with immigrants and refugees). Strong writing skills, and a high comfort level with technology and outreach are also important.

WHAT: The VISTA will help IAN expand a project that connects volunteers with opportunities to serve vulnerable populations. The VISTA will build and maintain new partnerships with national and local organizations; develop plain-language materials; identify and create new resources; maintain the project?s website; and, update IAN's volunteer directory. The VISTA will also help us improve our volunteer project by conducting an assessment of the training needs of volunteers.

WHEN: Apply by May 31, 2018, for a VISTA program year that begins on July 30, 2018.

WHERE: We are based in New York City (Midtown)

WHY:
  • Work with a national leader organization that uses technology to facilitate a positive change in immigrant rights.
  • Make a difference in the lives of immigrants and the community at large.
  • Help volunteers connect to meaningful opportunities.
  • Learn about the immigrant rights field and explore your career options.
AmeriCorp VISTAs get a stipend, health benefits, and an education or "end of service" award. IAN provides the VISTA with a monthly subway pass to defray commuter costs. Learn more about becoming a VISTA here: https://www.nationalservice.gov/programs/americorps/americorpsvista

HOW: Set up your account on VISTA. Meanwhile, send your resume and a short cover letter to describe your interest to Glykeria Tsiokanou at gtsiokanou@immigrationadvocates.org. No phone calls please.
