LawHelpNY Program Manager
Pro Bono Net is seeking to hire a LawHelpNY Program Manager who will spearhead the development and implementation of new initiatives and partnerships that help low and moderate income New Yorkers find solutions to their legal problems. This position requires a passion for our mission, paired with experience in project management, strategic partnerships, technology and a strong commitment to innovations in legal service delivery.
LawHelpNY.org is an award-winning statewide legal information website that helps low and moderate-income people find free legal aid programs in their communities, answers to questions about their legal rights, and self-help tools to improve their lives. The LawHelpNY program also spearheads new technology-enabled initiatives that empower low income and vulnerable individuals with legal resources and self-advocacy tools, and that strengthen collaboration within New York's civil justice community. These initiatives include new programs to expand civil legal assistance for victims of crime, the elderly and other underserved communities.
The LawHelpNY Program Manager will work under the direction of the LawHelpNY Program Director. This position is full-time (1 FTE) and located in Pro Bono Net's New York office.
Position Responsibilities
Program Management

Manage a portfolio of initiatives that leverage technology and LawHelpNYs online resources to expand access to legal assistance and strengthen collaboration within the civil justice sector in New York, including cutting edge projects to develop an online Crime Victim Legal Network and to expand assistance on elder justice issues.
- Manage partner relationships and project execution.
- Work closely with legal services organizations, libraries and community based organizations to successfully rollout and support new programs.
- Oversee project impact evaluation efforts.
- Maintain internal reporting systems to share knowledge and to document work on each project in an efficient and effective manner.
- Supervise Program Associate and LawHelpNY Website Coordinator on a per project basis.
Outreach and Training
- Cultivate relationships with groups serving low-income or vulnerable communities to promote use of LawHelpNY and related innovations as a tool to protect the rights of their constituents and clients.
- Design and conduct trainings for community partners on LawHelpNY's resources and related innovations.
- Work with Program Director to identify key themes and messages consistent with mission and project roadmap.
- Represent LawHelpNY at conferences and community events.
- Engage with justice community stakeholders in New York and nationally to learn about concerns, common issues and challenges, and to share new developments and best practices.
Capacity-Building and Program Administration
- Work with LawHelpNY's Content Manager to edit, maintain and produce materials to educate low-income New Yorkers about their legal rights.
- Work with Program Director to prepare materials for quarterly LawHelpNY Advisory Committee meetings and quarterly PBN Board meetings.
- Support the Program Director in resource development strategies. Assist in new grant and proposal development, tracking and reporting, as assigned.
- Serve as liaison to LawHelp Interactive, Immigration Advocates Network and probono.net/NY teams at PBN.
Candidate Qualifications
- JD is preferred.
- 3+ years experience working with public interest legal, court self help settings, or related organizations. Strong understanding of legal processes, communications, and regulations in poverty law.
- Web-savvy and fluent in the discussion of web-based tools; demonstrated ability and strong interest in using technology to support innovative approaches to service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, work well with people, and foster and facilitate collaboration. Good email and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Confident and skilled communicator (written and verbal) particularly the ability to make technology understandable to people without a technical background.
- Ability to adapt to new ideas in a positive way; flexible approach to unexpected changes in priorities and ability to respond to the needs/expectations of diverse stakeholders.
- Must be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently on projects in a fast- paced organization and taking on new pilot initiatives.
- Detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multitask, establish priorities and achieve results.
Location and Benefits
This is full-time position with a competitive nonprofit salary range of $50,000-$65,000 per year and excellent benefits, including 4 weeks paid vacation. The position will be based in New York.
