Position Overview
Pro Bono Net seeks a highly qualified candidate to join our team as LawHelpNY Program Director. This full-time position will spearhead Pro Bono Net's leadership of LawHelpNY (www.lawhelpny.org and www.ayudalegalny.org) and related technology initiatives that empower New Yorkers in need to resolve their legal problems. LawHelpNY.org is an award-winning statewide legal information website that helps low and moderate-income people find free legal aid programs in their communities, answers to questions about their legal rights, and self-help tools to improve their lives. LawHelpNY.org also extends the reach and impact of legal aid and pro bono organizations across the State. In addition to its core website, LawHelp/NY supports LiveHelp, a robust live chat program using law student volunteers, and increases access to legal information through innovative uses of video, interactive legal forms, social media, mobile technologies and other digital strategies. This is a full-time position based in New York City with excellent benefits, including 4 weeks of paid vacation. Position Responsibilities
New York Program Leadership
- Lead strategic direction, goals and annual work plan to expand LawHelp/NY's role as a strategic technology resource for the legal services community statewide.
- Establish and oversee execution of LawHelpNY content strategy, including new and innovative approaches to delivering legal rights resources.
- Oversee LiveHelp live-chat program and partnerships.
- Lead strategic communications and outreach activities to grow awareness and adoption of LawHelpNY resources and services among key stakeholders.
- Spearhead the development of new initiatives that leverage LawHelpNY.org and related technology innovations to increase access to justice in New York state.
- Coordinate involvement of LawHelpNY Advisory Board, comprised of senior leaders from leading legal aid and pro bono organizations, including providing overall direction and convening quarterly meetings.
- Work closely with the New York Courts Access to Justice Program and other relevant Court stakeholders.
- Participate in statewide legal aid and technology networks, and build relationships with broader justice community stakeholders, including non-legal institutions such as public libraries, educators and social workers to advance outreach and collaboration strategies.
- Liaise with PBN technology team to help guide product roadmaps and development priorities.
- Liaise with other PBN staff to facilitate awareness and adoption of other New York programs, including probono.net/ny, LawHelp Interactive, Citizenshipworks and virtual assistance platforms under development.
Fundraising and Evaluation
- Lead fundraising efforts for LawHelpNY, in coordination with development staff, including funder stewardship, proposal development and law firm engagement.
- Oversee program impact evaluation efforts.
- Prepare reports for LawHelp/NY funders, Advisory Board and PBN Board as needed.
Administration
- Supervise and grow a team of LawHelp/NY legal staff and VISTA volunteers.
- Develop and manage annual program budget.
- Oversee management and reporting on program grant and/or contract deliverables.
- Facilitate the use of PBN timekeeping and project tracking systems to document work and support internal knowledge-sharing.
Qualifications
- JD and 5+ years of experience in the legal sector or a related knowledge field such as public policy, with experience in program management preferred and highly valued.
- Web-savvy and fluent in the discussion of web-based tools; ability to articulate a vision for how technology can support innovation in service delivery and empowerment.
- Professional working proficiency in Spanish or other major LEP language group demographic in New York a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, work well with people, and foster and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
- Strengths in managing, developing and coaching individuals or teams.
- Detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multitask, establish priorities and achieve results.
- Confident and skilled communicator (written and verbal), particularly the ability to make technology understandable to people without a technical background.
- Strong self-motivation and initiative required, with ability to thrive and be resourceful in a dynamic environment with new challenges to solve.
- Ability to work well with others and lead projects involving remote collaborators.
- Willingness and ability to travel several times a year.
