LIFT Legal Incubator Program in Baton Rouge and New Orleans Accepting Applications through November 29

Are you interested in starting your own solo practice, but not sure if you are ready? What if there was a program that would provide you with the training, mentorship, free resources, and support you need to develop a sustainable law firm while you hone your practice and business skills?  If you answered yes to the first question, then the LSBA's legal incubator program might be for you.

Legal Innovators for Tomorrow (LIFT) is an 18-month incubator program that helps new attorneys build viable and sustainable solo law firms that serve unmet legal needs. Through partnerships in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LIFT is accepting applications for two projects, both of which offer new attorneys the opportunity to build solo or small law firms that increase legal representation for underrepresented people in Louisiana.

At the Domestic Violence Project in New Orleans, attorneys will work with seasoned mentors to increase access to legal services for survivors of domestic violence in the area of family law including divorce, child custody, community property and spousal support - among other related areas. Participants in this project will receive subsidized office space at the New Orleans Family Justice Center, just blocks away from Orleans Civil District Court. At the Flood Proof Project in Baton Rouge, attorneys will work with people affected by the 2016 flood and learn how to handle successions, heirship property, clear title, and other property-related matters that affect disaster victims. Participants in this project will receive a $10,000 stipend.

Application Process

Louisiana licensed attorneys with less than six years practice experience who plan to develop or have begun to develop a law practice and are committed to increasing legal representation for underserved people are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Friday, November 29, 2019. Applications for each program should be sent in ONE PDF file to amy.duncan@lsba.org. If you have questions, call Amy Duncan at (504) 619-0148.
