Singapore: Chief Justice Menon urges new lawyers to embrace pro bono work

Singapore's Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon has urged new lawyers to embrace the opportunity to provide assistance to those who cannot afford legal services that they need.

He also spoke of the challenge of grooming a generation of lawyers who specialise in community law.

Addressing some four hundred new lawyers at a Mass Call ceremony to admit them as Advocates and Solicitors of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Menon said pro bono work is important to lawyers and to the legal profession because it emphasises that all are equal before the law.
