Canada: Lawyers volunteer time, expertise

Regardless of the nature of one's skills, there is a charitable organization that can make use of them, and volunteers with legal education and certification are highly sought after. Of the roughly 1,100 practising lawyers in the province, 264 work with Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan (PBLS) to provide free legal information and representation to those who would otherwise lack the funds to pay for advice and counsel. In return, PBLS seeks to organize and encourage their selfless efforts while celebrating the values that foster volunteerism in the profession.

"We run a variety of different volunteer programs throughout the province," said Nicole Sarauer, acting executive director and staff lawyer at PBLS.
