In Last Chance to Keep FEMA Trailers, Jefferson Parish Residents Can Plead Cases at Parish Hearings (Louisiana)
Jefferson Parish is approaching a new phase in its FEMA trailer-removal effort in which hundreds of residents who have received violation notices could go before hearing officers to argue for more time in their trailers. After the parish set a March 31 deadline to begin the process of removing trailers, inspectors began issuing citations in April for trailers they deemed no longer needed in rebuilding houses. More than 300 such violations are pending, and hearings giving the trailer dwellers a last chance to win extensions before facing fines could begin in July…. Davida Finger, an attorney at the Loyola University Law School Clinic, said the clinic has tried to help dozens of distressed trailer residents win extensions from Jefferson Parish….
