The LSBA Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities Committee, chaired by SLLS' Elena Perez, is presenting a CLE on 6/21 titled “Professional Considerations for Attorneys when Interacting with Clients, Colleagues, and Community Members with Disabilities.” The event is free for SLLS staff, and includes lunch. The LSPD Committee will meet after the CLE.

All attorneys, regardless of practice area, are likely to encounter clients, colleagues, and community members with disabilities and/or capacity issues. Attorneys’ obligations often extend beyond the minimum legal accommodations. This presentation will provide practical tips on how to avoid potential pitfalls, and show clients, colleagues, and community members with disabilities, the due respect that the code of professional conduct dictates.
This session is presented by the LSBA Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities Committee, which will meet immediately following the CLE session. All are welcome to attend.
Speaker: DEBRA WEINBERG is a managing attorney at the Advocacy Center of Louisiana. Ms. Weinberg represents people with disabilities on a variety of issues, with a focus on Medicaid and Special Education. She has represented individuals with disabilities in administrative hearings, mediation, state complaint proceedings, and federal court. Ms. Weinberg has trained doctors, medical students and residents, attorneys, judges, court staff, advocates, social workers, and parents on special education issues in a variety of settings.
