Josh Esmay, Criminal Records Attorney at the Council on Crime and Justice, will cover the landscape of criminal records: who has them, how do they arise, and who keeps track of them. He will talk about how they are used, both by government players who by law have to consider them, and how they are used by private players as well.

J.C. Horvath, Criminal Expungement Vista Attorney for Volunteer Lawyers Network, will discuss the law underlying criminal expungement. He will review the statutes and how they are interpreted at the district court level. Mr. Horvath will also discuss the effect the recent Supreme Court cases have had.

Chris Hanrahan, Resource Attorney at Volunteer Lawyers Network, will talk about the process of filing an expungement petition, including the automated pleading assembly tool. He will be relaying his practical experience on what various counties' practices are to give our viewers a good feel for what to expect. He will also discuss what may have changed based on the Supreme Court decisions.

The trainers will go through their thoughts for the future, including where they think there may be advocacy opportunities in the wake of the new state of the law.

CLE: 1.5 hours of Standard CLE Credit will be applied for.
