The National Domestic Violence Pro Bono Directory

Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles

LAFLA, established in 1929, is the front-line provider of free legal services to indigent persons in the County of Los Angeles. LAFLA has 13 attorneys on staff who provide full or part-time family law or domestic violence legal assistance, far more than any other free legal service provider in Los Angeles County. Under the supervision of Managing Attorney Ana M. Storey, they provide court representation to parents in cases involving restraining orders, custody and visitation, and support. LAFLA is a national leader in addressing the special needs of immigrant victims of domestic violence who are eligible for relief under the Violence Against Women Act and the Immigration Fraud Amendment. In 1992, LAFLA was one of the first programs in the country to specialize in assisting battered immigrants file "battered spouse" waivers as provided by the Immigration Act of 1990, legislation which amended the Immigration Fraud Amendments of 1986 (IMFA).
