Please join us for discussion on using expert testimony in assault cases, challenges at trial and upholding a conviction on appeal in State v. Borg, and working with survivors from other countries within criminal and immigration law.
Sara Gonsalves, JD is a 2008 graduate of the Hamline University School of Law. Since 2011, she has served the Minnesota Judicial Branch as a subject matter expert on sexual and domestic violence case types. Previously, Sara was Project Attorney at the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Staff Attorney with Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis - Immigration Law Project.
Kelly Moller, JD is the Executive Director of the Minnesota Alliance on Crime, a statewide
coalition of general crime victim service providers and allied professionals working to promote victim rights in Minnesota. Prior to joining the Alliance, Kelly worked as an Assistant Attorney General for 13 years in the Criminal Appeals Division, representing the state in a variety of felony-level appeals, including homicides, domestic assaults, sexual assaults, and child abuse cases. Kelly received the 2011 AWARE award from the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault for her work on sexual assault cases. She graduated magna cum laude from both the University of Notre Dame and Hamline University School of Law.
Salima Oines Khakoo, JD is the CEO and Managing Attorney of American Dream Law LLC. Ms. Khakoo attended the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota where she received a Masters of Arts in Public Affairs in 1997. She received a J.D. Degree (Cum Laude) in 2002 from Hamline University School of Law. As Contract Attorney for Civil Society and Access Justice, Ms. Khakoo is works with legal options for human trafficking and other crime victims. Ms. Khakoo is an adjunct faculty at Hamline University School of Law and William Mitchell College of Law. She also serves as a mediator for her religious community's Conciliation and Arbitration Board, handling marital and commercial disputes.
